In the late 20th century, as a student and practitioner of divine Science, I found the teachings in Eddy’s Science and Health to be extraordinarily effective in understanding how to heal mind/body/spirit through prayer. I’ve experienced proof of metaphysical healing and for this proof I basically give credit to the ideals of Truth, God, as outlined in Eddy’s Science and Health.

Before the turn of this century, my practice of metaphysical healing increasingly included the public. I would find myself in conversations with people interested in the scientific healing aspect of Truth, Christ. However in the beginning, these conversations brought about a rude awakening for me. I was too often speaking in 19th century vernacular when I shared Eddy’s ideas. So, I made the decision to admit that Eddy’s statements were deserving of expression in 21st century idiom and language and I developed the means to do so. It wasn’t long before logic took me further. If speaking about Eddy’s ideas in today’s language, I must also accept Science and Health in today’s language in print form. To insist otherwise is ethnocentric, impractical, and false-hearted.

However, something about a printable revision ran contrary to what I’d been humanly imprinted with. Either consciously, or unconsciously, my brain was impressed with the notion that a readable revision of Science and Health was not an option. For feedback, I mentioned the idea of Eddy’s Science and Health in modern day language to my Teacher of Christian Science.  He then gave me a shocked look, fumbling with words agreeable to the value of  revisions. The subject was dropped as I wasn’t prepared to say anymore. I then bounced the idea off other students of Christian Science, but the idea came right back like a hot potato.

With the economy the way it is some people are pulling out all the stops, including psychics. Right now most people are having money issues and relationship issues because of the additional stress of money issues. What some psychics perceive is that people should be calling on them to resolve their relationship issues but what they fail to take into account is that people are not calling them because of the money issues – duh! Some psychics (not all) are being very short sighted and forgetting that their gift is for a higher power and empowerment of their clients.

To increase their business some psychics, rather than expanding themselves, have resorted to disempowering approaches to their readings. Some others have had their confidence and egos shaken to the point that they have lost faith in themselves and rather than give true psychic readings they get by on making true statements about universal laws regarding life such as “(fill in the blank) is temporary”.  No! really? Realty check, everything and everyone is temporary. Another one is, “if you have faith . . .”. Give me a break. If they didn’t have faith would the be calling a psychic? This one is also fail safe for the psychic because they can easily say this or that didn’t happen because your faith wasn’t strong enough.

One’s psychic ability is only proportionate to their faith. If a psychic looses faith in any  regard within themselves they need to take a time out to restore their faith before handling other people’s affairs.

Students who say they suffer from “math anxiety” usually have the following symptoms:   Upon entering their math classroom, even on the first day, they panic and feel immediately unsuccessful.  Feelings of nervousness, frustration, annoyance, even anger are felt.  Even when offered help or opportunities to get assistance, the student remains passive and afraid.  On tests these students feel like they are alone in their suffering; that they are the only ones who are struggling; that they will mess up even the simplest problems.  These students have lost their confidence, and have often felt this way for many years.  What is perpetuating this problem, and what can parents and teachers do about this?

The problem of math anxiety is universal.  Yes, many students come to class with skill gaps in the curriculum and poor training in study and test-taking skills.  But it is mostly a mental block and self-fulfilling prophecy perpetuated by those who care for the struggling student the most:  parents, relatives, and teachers who show a negative attitude about their past challenges in math class.  The clue to the power of the self-imposed block is when the student travels to his next class and immediately feels better and more confident, and is glad the torturous hour of math is over.  For most kids with math anxiety, this is the reality.  Why the sudden relief, the sense of going back to normal, and the instant sense that things are better?

Math anxiety is simply an emotional condition, extended through many days, weeks, and years and blown up in the student’s mind as being something unrecoverable, innate, and permanent.  One of the first steps in dealing with this strong emotion is to examine the myths about math in general that create mistaken ideas about how math concepts and ideas fit in to our world.

Astronomy (‘Ilm al-Hay’ah) or the science of formation (i.e. of the heavens) deals with such things as the structure of the heavens, the number and configuration of the stars, the signs of the zodiac, the distances of the stars, their size and their motions. It also deals with the compilation of planetary tables, the catalogue of stars for the making of calendars and similar tasks.

The Arabs took a keen interest in the study of heavens. They developed this interest firstly, because they had once worshipped heavenly bodies, (1) and secondly, because the dwellers of the desert who usually traveled at night in connection with trade, war and migration from one place to another, found the direction of their journey with the help of the stars. The clear sky of the desert gave them a chance of making precise observations. Thus there was some locally acquired knowledge of the fixed stars, the movements of the planets and the changes of the weather.

After the advent of Islam, the Muslims had to determine the time of the prayers and the direction of the Ka’bah to turn their faces towards it at the time of prayers. For this purpose it was necessary to know the altitude of the sun and the latitudes and longitudes of all the places where the Muslims lived. The same need arose for the orientation of the mosque. This gave a religious impetus to the study of astronomy and the allied subjects such as astronomical geography and mathematics. On the other hand, the Muslims, who once carried on flourishing trade all over the world and occasionally launched Jihad, had to travel on the land and the sea. As an aid to travel, navigation and meteorology, a by product of navigation, they needed star maps. The necessity of such maps was also a cause of their interest in astronomy.
